We also are looking and mapping local resources ie diesel tanks generators etc food depots ie bridgewater morrisons ( big Paul) I think you would want a group of 20 adults to have a good number for guarding rotas etc plus child care

get a map of your local area and mark on it "places of interest", go out on the ground and research these places, see whats in them if possible.

RE: SHEEPLE!!!
This thread deals with my biggest concern - the threat posed by people who are one or more of the following, desperate, scared, greedy, violent, psychotic. It'll be a bloodbath. Well, I think it will anyway. I should imagine it will be a long time before you'd need fishing and hunting or growing your own veg. Getting through the chaos unscathed is my biggest worry.

RE: SHEEPLE!!!
there was a survey/report done for the then govt in the 60s or 70s that said it was estimated that in a major SHTF event the population would halve EVERY 6 MONTHS, so if we take 60 million as todays population(I know its more but that's a nice round figure) so after 6 months the population is down to 30 million, 12 months-15million and 18months 7.5million, they reckoned it would level off after 18 months.

I don't know how much this still applies nearly half a century later.

If those human expenditure figures are anything like realistic were gonna be hip deep in corpses in no time at all and with no organised disposal then disease is going to be what kills us all.

RE: SHEEPLE!!!
There will be different types of scavengers/marauders in different areas, just as an example, a sudden shtf situation occurs and you live near a garrison, you are going to be up poop creek without a paddle imo, near a city/town with a sizeable rough area your going to get a nasty group of no hopers who think all their Christmases have come at once, they will travel and deplete all food and do much worse as they go, generalisation here, but they're going to be savvy but not bright, a good bit of preparatory work would work well with this type. Would prefer these to the former, a third group would be familys traveling together for protection and getting as far away from the hell on earth that towns/citys become. They will be desperate no doubt, some just possibly might even be useful. What I don't think I've seen mentioned yet is charity! So used in rawles books, personally, I think it must be the dumbest idea out there. Instead of placating people, it will be a starter for trouble, you have immediately shown that you have food to spare "not good", whatever you offer will not be enough and it will cause an argument which WILL escalate.
This is a small part of the immense minefield that would have to be overcome, but that's why were discussing it now, I am sure most of you have also gone over the countless scenarios time and time again, I have come to some personal decisions what is achievable and what is not depending on what group type and size come knocking.

RE: SHEEPLE!!!
every area will be different to a lesser or greater extent, nearer the big cities scavengers will be a threat, the further away from the cities the threat diminishes. as for feeding anyone other than the people you have prepped for, I think this is a no-no, for one they now know you have food and can come back with more people(a mob?) and secondly any food you give them is less for your own people to eat, the more you repeat this process the less and less you have for yourself.

RE: SHEEPLE!!!
BP, Your comment on the survival rate of the population in a Survival situation is excellent. I too, remember seeing this report, a good many years ago. I would say, that if we can survive for the first twelve months, we should have (in remote areas) sufficient land about us, to be able to grow our own food and keep animals. If we have the seed we could even grow our own medication (Herbal). Kenneth Eames.

Exactly Kenneth, where did you see that report? I have been trying to find a link to it but without success.

RE: SHEEPLE!!!
BP, I cannot remember where I saw it, maybe a Newspaper or Magazine. It certainly was not the net as I knew nothing about computers in those days. If I can recall the name of the report I'll be able to to search it on the web. I have been trying to think of it all morning, but so far my memory has failed me. Kenneth Eames.
