I've had this conversation so many times before, traditionally the south west is Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset, not Wiltshire, not Hampshire and certainly not Gloucestershire, Bristol used to be Avon-dosent exist any more(Avon that is not Bristol) and Bath always came under North East Somerset-so just in!Big Grin

Its a bit like when ITV was TSW with the studios in Plymouth.
TSW (Television South West - for those outside the area) would purely report on the news from Devon and Cornwall; then it became Westward Television going up as far as Bristol; but now its Westcountry Television and covers from Cornwall/the Channel Islands, up to Glos and across to Swindow!!!

Aaah yes NOW we agree , I remember being in Taunton in the 70s at Norton Manor Camp and at one point the BBC news for the area came out of Exeter, then it suddenly started coming from Bristol !!!.
Its just as bad up here because what WAS Tyne Tees TV is now Tyne Tees and BORDER TV we get news from Dumfrees and Galoway in Teesside passed off as local news !!!!

Nope not all of us retired, some of us have to pay taxes to support the rest of them

I have my own business and tend to be working around the clock, 9am until 2am (yes AM!) is not uncommon, but can't complain, it enables me to buy whatever I need/want, including my own little prepping heaven - I just have no time to use it, so still working on that!!

Work wise I'm only getting occasional contract now from wind farm and solar farms and AD schemes, its almost dried, up, I still get a few bob now and then from client families working out self reliance and prepping schemes but that again is bloody quiet. So I do some driving for charities and for the local councils. We get by though and without ever signing on the dole.

I'm sorry just cos some news reader reads news from Swindon or Bristol dosent make them in the South West, nor is Wikipedia the font of all knowledge. the South West is the 4 counties already mentioned, what Midnitemo is probably referring to is the "westcountry", the 2 are not the same.

Back to the normal side of this thread. I'm a SW resident. The fun part of this is the arguments over the definition of what constitutes the South West. It's not really important is it? Why has this thread gone off topic into unimportant specifics?

The issue is that people may well come down into the area by Devon and Cornwall WTSHTF to get better living standards, e.g. less people, better soil, etc.

So here lies the issue, we're 14 pages into this thread and we're arguing over what? Over minutia.

People will not be flocking to Swindon WTSHTF. Neither will they head to Bristol.

People will head much further south. So let's deal with that, and stop barking up trees without cats in.
