Part of it is the short ranges one encounters using a pellet rifle. Most of the scopes one would find on these creatures work better at longer distances than pellets will fly and create a lot of parallax and distortion at back yard distances. The better the quality of the scope the longer one can operate and avoid this particular problem.

Many times the vision shield is attached directly to the scope to block the view of the left eye.

A cushioned tube for the eyepiece also helps when used in conjunction with the vision shield.
