Perhaps history tells us what will happen - rich people will live comfortably in well guarded enclaves whilst the rest of the population work the land and pay them rent.

no, those days are long gone, those that don't work wont get fed, pure and simple, there will be no such thing as something for nothing.
it also has to be said, what "rich" people? money will mean nothing in the post SHTF world. anyone who thinks they can sit on their backside and do nowt will find they starve very quickly.

you've read too many American fiction novels!! survival rates will be very low, anyone who thinks they can "lord" it over others wont last very long. we are getting into the realms of fantasy now.
