The UK won't turn into your communist utopia, it will be hard and you will be the little man. Wealthy landowners or warlords will rule, you will pay them rent / tax or you will die.

This has happened throughout history, all over the planet.

Having a useful skill will help improve your chances of a decent life, as it always has.

"wealthy Landowners" who are they then? don't exist anymore and haven't for a very long time, people who still have estates are scrapping the barrel just to keep them going and to repair them, they belong to another time and place, around here they do at any rate. and as for "warlords" maybe in places like Somalia but in Britain? get a grip.

don't believe everything you read in the press, it might sell books. if it wasn't for opening their houses to the public most of these estates would go bust, the upkeep of such property is very expensive. in a post SHTF world where no one is paying to visit they will starve like everyone else.

If the SHTF event is world-wide, such that normal fuel supplies, spare parts and food imports from overseas are greatly reduced or effectively cut off for a year or more, and there is no lend-lease arrangement with friendly governments or active merchant marine ferrying goods through the 21st Century equivalent Mr. Hitler's cordon, caused by whatever natural disaster, how large a population could the UK sustain if all arable land were converted to Victory gardens circa 1940 and you were reduced to growing potatoes, carrots, cabbages, etc....

Not a pretty sight.

A lot of people here have been trying to grow some veg, a few years ago a seed company reported a huge change in the ratio of veg to flower seeds they were selling.

We've also had a rash of TV programs about growing food, low energy living, Victorian farming methods etc., etc..

The powers that be are preparing us, subtly, for a simpler lifestyle.
