I suspect that Cossaks must still be being built under license somewhere as over the last few years I've seen a few what appear to be totally new ones on German registration plates.

They are good basic no-frills machines. Lousy fuel economy, but will probably be able to be kept operational for another 50 years or so:-)

I wanted one in stead of the current Discovery...... but senior management forbade me.

They are now fuel injected and available here but only in left hand drive I think.

FYI I was working for lada when someone one entered one in the Land Rover Trophy off road competition, it won IIRC
