you got that right Pete ! my grandparents used to farm a small holding on the opposite mountain where I sit , harvest time was busy back then coal miners would work after a shift and on weekends , wheat , corn ,
potatoes, swedes,turips you name it ….no shortage of labour back then, people would work all day for the food farmers provided and a bottle or two of rough cider ...the farms that gave the best food and drink always had the best labour very often it turned into a contest between farms … today nobody wants to work especially hard work …But that may will change very shortly , trouble is around here its now sheep and some cattle.....no veg at all here now except some swede and beets for feed .
