i think you can get special wax which is tailored to be better, but it doesnt really seem to matter, it'll extend the life of your bowstring! its good to use it after every shooting session too, heres some info on bow strings

personally i use candle wax and it works fine then again my crossbow is fucked anyway and i dont use it much
