We used our lifes savings to tide us through the formative years, it lasted a little of 3 1/2 years before every penny we had was used up. At this point we decided it was time I claimed back some of the tens of thousands of pound in tax I have paid since starting work in 1972.

The Gentleman in the chair to my left had just been released from Home House prison where he was held for the weekend, He was at the dole office to claim his automatic £170 release allowance, and the chap n the right was claiming extra money for his aged parents who now lived with him after recently arriving from India.
First time I have ever cried since I was a child, and the same moment I decided the only good socialist was a dead one.
When I left the Forces I had a similar experience trying to get a job and some training, I was in a queue with ex convicts and illegal immigrants...they got what they wanted, but I wasn't entitled to anything....I went off to the temp agency and worked packaging bananas and sweeping the streets to pay my mortage and bills.

Yeah I know mate, I asked for help when I left the Forces because my last posting N.I had screwed me up a bit, they just fobbed me off!
