I agree with Steve. Becoming near-self-sufficient is an effective way to hedge against financial disruptions, supply shortages and an inability to travel, all of which could be sparked by a multitude of events, from severe weather to a geo-political crisis.
Having said that, I also think the "what would you do" scenarios are good. Makes you think and sometimes presents a situation that you may not have really thought about (e.g. your recent house-fire one).
It would be interesting for members to present their own prepping case-studies. I.e.: "These are the threats I'm prepping for, here's my strategy, here is what I've done, here is what I have yet to do." But op-sec might make this impractical.
