the best animals for self sufficiency

cows are good if you have enough space for salad grazing in summer/housing and the means to gather feed for the winter.
one or a very few moos will be very difficult as they get rather cranky unless kept as a herd.
the best survivalist moos are probably among the most difficult to manage.

pigs eat a lot but they are delightful and tasty.most pig handling is quite easy .every breed is different but my favourites are gos for comedy value and crackling, large black for bacon and mangalitza for charcuterie they are rather bitey though)
chooks are a good starter critter but be prepared to learn about foxes,avian veterinary medicine ,tracking etc etc .

sheep are horrid and if not escaping they are seeking unusual and imaginative ways to die (i dont get on with sheep until they are ready for the kitchen)

some easy critters include carp ,bunnies,mealworms and giant african snails all of which make good dinners

depending on circumstances a couple of good hunting hounds might be the best animals to have
