As to routes out of London, I have started ordering maps so I can try and sort the routes out.
I cannot legally drive but have learnt to so I would have to see about 'borrowing' a vehicle long term if the roads do not get clogged (which they most likely will be).

Go to your local library and ask them to get you a copy of Beneath the city Streets by Peter Laurie, and study it.

Get a map of the Underground network, London Canal network, Cycle path network, storm drain and sewer network and the map listing all of the electricity pylons routes through your area.

Then get of your arse and go exploring with the boys or all the local out the way places like canal paths, cycle ways etc, make notes, lots of notes, then come home and plot yourself four alternative pedestrian routes out of Londonabad.
