There are two plants called Valerian, one is our own Native Valerian and the other is the Red Valerian (sometimes a White Variety is found). Only our native plant has medicinal properties. If you have native Valerian certainly use it. It is an excellent plant for Survival. Schitzophrenics will need it in a Survival situation but, do not give it to them at the present time as it will interfere with the orthodox medication. St. John's Wort is valuable too, but some people can suffer from photosensitivity caused by the Sun. Of course, in our climate with so much rain and dulness it is not likely to occur. Kenneth Eames.
