You bet your granny's knickers you do. I don't know what the penalties are in the UK, but here in the good old USA, unauthorized transmission on an amateur radio frequency will cost you $10,000, plus loss of your radio equipment, plus loss of any license you may hold, plus a ban on holding any future FCC radio license.

And by the way, every ham operator that I've ever known supports these penalties and will turn in a "pirate" unlicensed station and it's operator in a heartbeat!
