depends on who long the virus can survive outside a host and what happens when it lands on the ground or inert surfaces

Yep, ask any ash tree.
ash tree was a fungus that was brought to the UK via tree nursery in the netherlands to a nursery in the uk, which then sold the ash trees on.

Since it's never really occurred in the UK, we have no idea whether the virus can even exist in our climate.
Granted it's a scary idea. But the actuality...not so scary. In Uganda, it's got a 50% survival rate; healthy males and females. To be fair, I should be in that group.
