This is the way I'm intending to go, just bought a load of gear from Fourteenacre to make my own snares, I havn't got the free time to go shooting these days so hoping to try my hand with the snares.

Trapworks uk are good for snaring kit, I've got rabbit and fox snares in my kit it's also worth getting books on deadfalls and other traps, I'll dig some out and write the names of a the ones I've got if anyone wants.

If your wife doesn't like the idea of you shooting rabbits don't do it, a wise man would join a clay shooting club and take her along to show her that you an own a gun without hurting furry things and that it can be fun, then when she's come round to the idea and let's you get your gun you've always got the means to get rabbits if you need to.

No point lying and sneaking if you can own it for a not killing reason and avoid falling out.

On that same not UF, I might be shutting down my initial question.

I've planned a day with the clays (I love Groupon!!!) and since we are going to be buying our own home soon, she has agreed to let me install a gun cabinet, AND is happy for me to get into shooting clays!!! Which means.......I'll be going straight for the shotgun, instead of having the rabbit air rifle.

You can get a decent air rifle and some pellets whilst you wait for your SGC and consider the price of a shotgun and all the gear you can get an air rifle and enough pellets to keep you going for decades.

A shotgun should be second on your list unless you are using it for defence mainly.

Told you it would work mate, you can pick up secondhand shotguns for next to nothing Ive bought and sold them for as little as £45 and they've been in perfect safe working order, 250 shells is anywhere from £40 upwards depending on shot size and weight but clay loads tend to be cheaper, if you need any advice pm me if I can help i will.

Wow never seen a pine martin, how much bigger than stoat/weasels are they?

A Pin Martin is probably around the same body size as a small cat,.. but appears longer because of the tail,... they are a real pest around here, and we cant do a lot about them as they are protected,.. people cant keep fowl because of them
