Lone wolf question: Always wanted to ask.

Johns post says more likely to. There always are exceptions to these things and you have posted one but notice how he returned to be with family at 82. Many people would need help before that point.

There is a reason why we have family groups.

Also .... there for most of the next 30 years, going to the lower 48 only occasionally to be with his family.

So he was not on his own without a break.
Bit like the old mountain men of the west, they came down at time to re-stock and trade.
But yes there will be exceptions. Unfortunately the only exceptions we have to reference to are with a society up and running. Not one in a post shtf situation.
OK who can tell but I would not risk it nor would I want it.
And as be pointed out else where by some who will go the lone wolf route, they would not let strangers in if they were in a group.
So another risk which post shtf could well end up in premature death.

depends where one is John old son, granted in a city even a devastated one there would still be lots of survivors to be wary of, but in a rural, remote, isolated area? one where there weren't that many people even in the good times? these places do exist even in the 21st Century if one knows where to look. going Lone Wolf means one would need LESS of everything, less food, less water, less noise, less waste.

It'll never happen.
Lone wolves will never understand the need people lovers have for other folks company.

and vice people lovers will never grasp why lone wolves can shun others company.

The idea tends to get forgotten that although lone wolves like the old mountain men will interact at some point with others for trade etc.. we like to limit that interaction and can manage perfectly happily for weeks, months or years with little or no human companionship.

The only bar to that being if your a bit horny...but then theres sheep....

This may be true but we are never going to find out until post SHTF.
At present you always have the opportunity of returning to what we have now, an up and running society with all its trimmings if anyone finds whichever is not for them.

Post SHTF you can always leave a group or what ever but you may find it difficult the other way around as even some who say they hard and fast lone wolves have posted that they would not let others in if they were in group.

No doubt we will find out when it happens but at present it is all just what individuals think personally. We will have to make our minds up and final decision when the time comes.

Why would they need less of everything? They will still require 1 persons rations, 1 sleeping bag, 1 stove, etc. That means they actually will consume more not less.

I meant in percentage terms, 1 person would require 10% of what a 10 person group would in terms of food and water, would make less noise(maybe no noise at all!) and less waste.
