Isolated - not quite lockdown
News tonight looks dire. UK deaths double in 24 hours. Cases double in around 72 hours.
The talk is about lockdown for over 70's for 4 months.
I think a final visit to Bookers to stock up is called for
Be safe

How do lads, been a few years since i have been on here. Was also BDG back in the day but lost the email address to that account years ago. Looks like the happenings here. I bought a farm five years ago and am prepped for this, saw it coming early january and once it moved out of China made sure I was sorted. Been working from home for the last two weeks as told work then I was not travelling to customer sites anymore, so quite comfy, got a load of veg sowed as there will be nothing in the shops later in the year. Not expecting the water to go off but power could be rationed.

RE: China Virus Threat 2020
Around here the only source of suitable alcohol at 50% ABV minimum is at the liquor store. All the pharmacies, Dollar General, Aldi, and mainstream supermarkets are completely out of toilet paper, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol and even after-shave!
The liquor store in town sold out of all their high-proof, cask-strength rum, Pharmco and Everclear 190 proof ethanol and Mason jars of legally taxed, locally distilled WV moonshine corn liquor. I was reduced to buying blue-label 100-proof Smirnov Vodka, as all the other vodka they had was only 80 proof (40% ABV) which is not "enough".
I tested some lighting off Goex 3Fg black powder soaked with it, in a watch glass and while it fizzled for a few seconds, it eventually went off. Below 100 proof the water content kills the powder which won't ignite. But 150 proof "cask strength" as specified for the "tot" in the Royal Navy during the days of wooden ships and iron men goes "poof!" instantly.

RE: China Virus Threat 2020
I am finding it difficult dealing with the "reset button" involving this quarantine.
I isolate, then have to leave the land and contact people. Start new count from that point. I will forever be less than the incubation time from my last exposure to the public.
Been bugged in since Sunday, now must go to the pharmacy to pick up meds. Possibly the worst place to go other than a hospital casualty center.
So far no cases in my immediate area. We do have a "hot spot" 30 miles south with a family of 6 testing positive and in lockdown.
It is a little village called Cynthianna, which happens to be the home of the creator of the TV series Walking Dead!!!

I must admit to having a haircut the other day as I want to at least feel human
but its the last one.
I understand about the reset button but as for myself, we're inside for around 3 - 4 months.
Until the curve goes down --- venture out to restock and then hunker down for the next phase.
I'm not counting days as I;m over 70 and vulnerable.
Obviously life will change dramatically. We have been talking and blogging about this for years and its finally here.
What happens afterwards? I'm not expecing total collapse but if the state can survive then it will have a bigger role in our lives.
What WOULD be useful is for you guys and gals to write how you are dealing with it all with any practical suggestions.
As I'm a member of a faith community, I'm trying to utilise digital meet ups.
We'll see how it goes
Keep safe everyone

RE: China Virus Threat 2020
Fast moving problems are opening up, any weak links will be exposed on the double ! Law and order will be lost which is the biggest fear for the ptb and All of us , Pete was telling us of the ply shutters he had prepared for his windows not so long back, although all my shutters are cut ready to fit (18mm ply) these can be fitted (ten off) within one hour , I updated our security systems a bit back....and added a bit more this week.....locks on All outbuildings have been upgraded .....self defence items are cleaned and ready for use .
Shortages are inevitable ....the longer it lasts the shorter everyday staple items will become and the more pissed off people will become .....mayhem ? Could well follow and quickly gain pace , the big takeaway for me right now is how fast things are moving and how fast things can fall apart....take a good look around your home! Look for any blind spots , where would be easy to gain entry (out of sight) set something up to make some noice to alert you ,where there are garden fences lay some timber boards down with nails pointing upwards....if anyone try’s to jump over they will have a painful surprise !

RE: China Virus Threat 2020
RS I am glad that you have a belief system and group to contact and rely on. Mentally that is very important when under this kind of stress. Remember that the group is still there even if not gathered in one spot. Skype, e-mail, and all the other media contact offerings are great for staying in contact. A time for Twitter and Instagram to be used to a real purpose and not entertainment.
I hit 70 two months back, have coronary artery disease, survived a massive heart attack 16 years ago, am meds dependent over that, also have type 2 diabetes and use meds to control that. Oddly, I am probably more healthy than at any other time in my life other than when in the military. All of my "problems" are under control, but I am still in the extreme high risk group for this particular virus.
My greatest prepper problem now is that most of the foods we use for long term survival will eventually kill me. I might be one of the only preppers known that does not have wheat, flour, beans, pasta, potatoes and rice as standard fare. My stores consist of tons of canned green beans, spinach, mixed veggies and greens and not a can of beans in sight.
Extreme isolation is being stressed so much due to the viability of this virus. the New England Journal of Medicine just released a new study of the live span.
The virus can last as droplet vapor in the air for 3 hours.
It remains alive for 4-6 hours on copper.
It remains alive for 2 days on cardboard.
It remains alive to three days on stainless steel and plastic.
that is why they do not want people out and about. If someone sneezes and you walk through the mist cloud 2 hours latter you have been infected and no one was in sight!
You open a door three days after an infected person, then touch your eyes, mouth or nose and you are infected.
The alcohol based sanitizers we use so freely are generally a placebo, this stuff needs to be bleached. No type of alcohol is listed as a cleaning agent for CV.
Those little bits are taken directly from the NEJOM and the CDC and not You tube, CNN, BBC or the Daily Mail.
My normal routine for life is staying at home on my own. Self isolation is my norm. I go out once each week to meet friends for lunch and meet my faith community once each week. One day a week I go to the big box store and buy fresh food, supplies and such.
My new norm is now calling the people I once sat down with on the phone, reading e-mails from my faith group, and going to the store only because I ran out of meds.
I did go to the Kroger store (much like your Aldi) yesterday to pick up meds from the chemist and since I was already there I decided to make a supply run. They had no fresh veg, no canned veg, not a can of soup in the place, canned meat was gone including sardines, which are most folks last choice. No rice, pasta, no dried beans or lintels of any kind, the frozen food isles were stripped and the stock boy was mobbed when he came out with a trolley of cheap frozen cheese pizzas. There is not a potato anywhere in the area, which is home to 1,000,000.
When I left that store I felt like I needed to go through a decontamination tent and be sprayed with bleach!
Now, I have been informed by a trusted source that within two weeks my state will be under MARTIAL LAW and the military will be manning road blocks at the state borders turning back all travelers, the highways system will be closed (the end of hope for a long distance "bug out") Yes, they are actually speaking the words MARTIAL LAW and the majority of the people are agreeing with the decision to legally suspend individual rights.
This is already in motion, the decision has been made. My source has already been informed that part of his job will be taken over by troops and he will be under control of the State military command. The civilian police will be fully militarized.
My state borders on two rivers that have only a dozen bridges crossing so they can actually shut half of it off with a few dozen troops.
The land borders to the south and east will be more tricky, but are doable with more troops. I would actually be much easier if the neighboring states assist and declare their own emergency. The state south of me has twice the number of CV victims as us and should have sealed their borders already.
When I say "state" I am referring to an area of land the size of England up to the Scottish border.
GB is now behind the curve in control of the population by the government for disease prevention. If I were Boris I wold have sealed off London and dropped a nuke on it long ago! London alone contains half of the CV cases in GB.

RE: China Virus Threat 2020
I read some weeks ago that a few of the young Jedi were summoned to Army Medical Command to assess pandemic response contingency plans. They would have been subject to the usual non-disclosure agreements, of course. Even with that knowledge and a general knowledge of the DoD Pandemic response plan, I was surprised by the level of panic of this past week. Call it normalcy bias.
I expected cities to have some shortages. And industry to have some supply chain problems, particularly with PPE and expendable med supplies like IV lines, catheters, etc. I did not expect full on stupid from most everyone. Panic buying and hoarding of anything of value.
And I really didn’t expect it out in the little rural burgs. A wake up call for sure.
I also didn’t anticipate the reduced policing and early release of folks jailed without bail but awaiting trial. I certainly didn’t expect government ordered shuttering of businesses, schools, houses of worship and banning public assembly.
The whole government response smells bad. They are using the financial response to the 2008 housing crisis and adding a questionable (and unnecessary) level of population and resource control. These are counter-insurgency methods right out of the Iraq playbook.
I’m going to generously assume that it’s a case of horrendous unconscious incompetence. Folks grasping at straws and doing what’s familiar to buy time. The other possible explanations I can think of are unpleasant even to ponder.
The good news is that POTUS has gotten FDA to authorize someone off label uses of common drugs that look promising. Cutting that red tape has real value. The relatively new “right to try” laws are also helpful in finding safe therapies without expensive and time consuming rigorous clinical trials.
Good job Team POTUS.
