RE: China Virus Threat 2020
you got that right Pete ! my grandparents used to farm a small holding on the opposite mountain where I sit , harvest time was busy back then coal miners would work after a shift and on weekends , wheat , corn ,
potatoes, swedes, turips you name it ….no shortage of labour back then, people would work all day for the food farmers provided and a bottle or two of rough cider ...the farms that gave the best food and drink always had the best labour very often it turned into a contest between farms … today nobody wants to work especially hard work …But that may will change very shortly , trouble is around here its now sheep and some cattle.....no veg at all here now except some swede and beets for feed .

After 50 plus years of a welfare state we have people whos career path is unemployment and who will not be interested in anything that comes close to work. Plus if it looks like the will need to do so they just pop out another leech.

Yes SD but you are also looking at a new situation where things might come to be measured in terms of before the plague and after the plague.

We have no idea what the future holds in a society reshaped by population loss. We have not seen such possible reductions since the Great War was followed by Spanish Flu 1918-1920.

The Plague of the 1350s changed the labor structure of GB and shaped the national history and politics as no other incident did before or after.

The shortage of farm labor caused a restructuring of society in the rural areas as the urban areas saw half their populations wiped out.

The labor contracts that resulted from the restructuring of farm labor brought the rise of the Yeoman Farmer to the extent that it is credited with breaking down serfdom in England earlier than in any other European nation.

You are also facing the loss of a single large age group and voting block. Everyone that is old enough to remember "how it used to be" may be dead by the end of all this.

And there is the distinct possibility that the benefits society might be forced to end due to global economic meltdown such as has never been seen. The rush to mitigate damage to the economies of the world has created a debt load that may define international politics for the next century, ending the ability to support a welfare state and causing wars we never imagined might happen.

Russia seems to be the least affected of the developed nations. That or they are not reporting the cases. Think on that for a bit.

Just the opposite here. After a couple of days of quiet people looked around and saw no one dropping dead around them. The only thing closing down businesses has done is put more people on the streets and shopping in the stores that are still open, which is all of the large chain stores, discount stores, groceries and big box wholesale clubs such as Cosco, Sams and Kroger warehouse. The stores are packed.

Plus in my area we have seen a flattening of the new cases being reported. We have ten cases in a population of 1/2 million in this region. No deaths. No new cases reported in nearly a week.

People really do not see the sense in the restrictions and are visiting in homes of friends and family constantly. There is a constant and above average flow of traffic on my little lane.

Of course this is a rural area and the average IQ equals the number of lace holes on a pair of trainers with Velcro closures.

What are you babbling on about?

You seem to make no sense at all until you try to sell us some of your immune building snake oil. Then you come across loud and clear.

I should have expected a spammer along the way. It happens kn every crisis.
