Time for AU and AG

I'm seriously considering buying silver and lead in bar form.

If there is not a major event, it is a nice home for the cash. If there is silver is useful as seen and lead will be handy for different reasons. Not sure where the best place to buy ingots is though.

I'm going with the new thinking of survival bartering, stuff which is useful i.e. bullets and beans.

The best currencies for immediate survival will be fuel, ammunition, antibiotics, and medical supplies probably followed by cans, dried stuff, clothing and tools.
Not forgetting anyone with medical training who is going to be worth their weight in . . . . . . . anything they want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Money, gold, and silver?
Sounds OK but that's old world values.
You can't eat or drink it, or even burn it. It's long term thinking yes but it needs a measure of worth i.e. an exchange rate. Old values.

Until a 'new' civilisation is re-established, you've got to eat, drink, keep warm and stay well. Let alone defend yourself so I'll be trading in bullets and beans.

No, the guy who has the sense to get hold of a warehouse or truck full of supplies and fuel will rule in the immediate future after a major event not the guy with a bag full of pretty metal.

Personally I'm going to be looking for a gunshop or military armoury first and then a quiet gas station or food distribution warehouse. Preferably all three!

i reckon a warehouse of tinned food would be my wish...after all, the survivors would all have to eat, and what is the one thing everyone will need....FOOD!!Big Grin

Tobacco, salt, alchol(spirits) and sugar I think also for bartering just a thought.

I'm with BP on this - food , fuel , medicines , ammo , followed by other useful equipment like clothing etc.

Outdoor specialists like go outdoors...will be on my to-do list.
Closely followed by a local pharmacy.
Trying very hard not to be paranoid.....and it aint getting easier.

Couple of things spring to mind.
1) You'd have to be pretty well tooled up to get anywhere near a Chemists. Don't for one minute think you're going to beat the local addicts to it, also Chemists, like Vet surgeries tend to be very well fortified and no way would the Pharmacist just let you walk in.
2) Do you really want to barter ammunition? Think about it, those who want it, probably don't have any. Once you do your deal, well then you have armed them and they will most likely use it to have a go at your stores as you have just demonstrated you have some! Nope, I won't be bartering anything explosive, pointy or otherwise able to harm or threaten me and mine. Just my few P's worth.

I'm in 2 minds about bartering after TSHTF , my main problem is that by entering into a barter with someone else i have alerted that other person to the fact i have more than he has and they could possibly come back with others and rob me of all i have stored up, leaving me with nothing and then i and my family will starve.
