i think if i wanted another dog, i'd go for a Lurcher or a minature Poodle or both, and i wouldnt go near a breeder, i'd go to a rescue centre and see what they had! had some good dogs from rescue centres in the past.

I'm the same Big Paul,
All my dogs are rescues, but the Labs are full pedigree and health checked. There are rescues and there are rescues, you can pick up some cracking dogs because many people can no longer afford to keep their dogs. Also some breeders are still trying to make money out of breeding dogs, but some of the people they are sellling the dogs to are unsuitable. I go on 'Gumtree' and look at the adverts that say 'lovely dog but my child has fur allergy' or 'due to work commitments this dog needs a forever home' what they mean is that the dog reached puberty and they couldn't handle the humping and other behaviour problems.

At that point I make an offer and get myself a nice dog, once the pup is spayed/neutered at (12 months old) and welcomed into the pack I set about training it to hunt. It's great giving a dog a second chance at a good life.

Stewart you are a man after my own heart, a great big pack of dogs is great fun!Smile

hoping to acquire a GSD at the turn of the year,

Primarily a companion/schutzhund, though i'd need to research and see if hunting was something i could add to the dogs skill set.

Shepard cross greyhounds make good dogs I do like collie lurchers also. One of my lurchers is a flat coated retriever crossed with a grey hound looks like a chocolate lab on steroids

2 MANIC whippets, as all the Dartmoor crew know. Their 'killer instinct' is...erm....killed. Because we also have rabbits, guinea pigs, hamster, degu's, and cats, they have acquired a new 'skill'. They could easily catch a rabbit, but when they caught it, they'd just lick it for a while, then walk off and have a poo, like they do at the moment with our rabbit...or cats...or guinea pigs...or any other animal we have.

in the early stages of SHTF there will be plenty of stray dogs about-before they go feral- with a bit of encouragement and some free food you'll probably be able to acquire all the dogs you need( suggest you store away some EXTRA bags of dog food!).
