Recommend me a GPS unit!
I'm after a hand held GPS unit that can take (or hopefully comes with!) the 1:25000 OS maps. AA batteries preferred, price not too much of an issues, £500 and under would be nice for the unit and map.
Any suggestions?
I can't find any that have the 1:25000, just the 1:50000
HELP!

Cant help you I dont believe we should use GPS as they are to prne to govt interference and reliant on batteries. I have one as an aid to driving but still rely on maps.

GPS systems depend upon a person resetting the drift everyday...In a SHTF event that won't happen and it won't work....get a good set of maps.

RE: Recommend me a GPS unit!
I have maps (get mine for free) - but I want GPS too. Not the crap ones for the car, but proper OS maps on it for the full country. Not bothered if the GPS unit needs resetting to stay accurate, i want the ability to take the OS maps for the whole country anywhere with me in one small unit.

Guys, that isn't what he is asking about. People have uses for things while they are prepping.
I've found some good ones on eBay. Best to go searching there.

North-Star. It's a very effective system. Even some sailors use it. Only really effective at night though haha.
How bit a unit are you looking for?

Battery life?
Do you want it to show your location on a map, or just coordinates that you can then add to a map, or both?

Location on the map. Otherwise I've still got to carry about maps with me

RE: Recommend me a GPS unit!
I was looking into a Garmin eTrek a while back. Cost was about £150 mark.
Didn't bother getting one as my phone had pretty good satnav and maps system, so I just kept to that instead.
Not sure the scale it goes to though. I think it was 1:25000.
