Army Surplus Stores
HI
New forum user Scott here from Newcastle, I will post a proper introduction in the coming days.
I was wondering if any of you guys know of a big/Huge army surplus store in the Northeast of England and if not where would the nearest one be.
There is quite a few smaller ones which generally have the same generic items, the largest one I know off is Kommand in the Bigg Market.
The one im talking about are the huge ones you see in America like the one in the Arny film commando.
Thanks in advance for replies

RE: Army Surplus Stores
Big difference between American films and real life. Even over here those big Surplus store are rare and usually located near major military installations. Many times they are operated by "Wanna-be-commandos" and often get busted for selling stolen government property. The troops steal kit from their buds ad fence it to the shops.
Most surplus stores over here are small shop "mom and pop" operations too. Most of what they sell is manufactured for the surplus market or rejects from GC snafus.
Oh yes, I meant to add that many times the pictures of a storefront are staged. I have traveled many miles to find what appeared to be a huge store in and advertisement was actually a small shop in a strip mall.
The add made it look like they had the whole building instead of just a small portion.

RE: Army Surplus Stores
In the UK most large batches of surplus gear is sold off by the MOD at auction which is taken up by the smaller shops, the only exceptions I am aware of is for the disposal of military vehicles which nearly all go to one big auction sales company. Plus much UK surplus gear is often given as aid to smaller nations in Africa or sold to places like New Zealand.

Didn't realise there was a lot wrong with internet shopping...
With surplus gear from vehicles to clothing etc its often a matter of needing to inspect the items before hand to get the decent stuff.
Back to the OPs question There is Genuine Army Surplus on North Road in Darlington he keeps an a lot of good kit from various nations, Uniforms, webbing, sleeping bags, pouches, rations, ammo boxes, jerry cans, tools etc
