We looked into this before we went solar, but it wasnt to be for us,..two reasons, first of all we live on an ancient beach, and sand is no good for this job, which means a much deeper dig down to get into anything thats good enough to use
Secondly the cost,..... and the extra cost of such a deep dig

There are local hotspots particularly where granite bedrock nears the surface. this is good for Geothermal, but often comes with health damaging radon gas seepage as on Dartmoor and Exmore.
