RE: SUK HT PROGRAMMING PROTOCOL (proposal)
Confused,... Ok,... I was going to PM someone so that I could get help for this downloading, as I am feeling a bit thick here, but then I thought there might well be more than me having problems with this, so I thought I would bite the bullet and ask for help openly,...Confused

I have two Baefengs uv-R5 `s,.. one of them is a BFB251, and the other is BFB293

First of all I cant seem to get any drivers loaded up

The information on the disc is a lot, which will I need to use?

I see the UV-R5- VIP which I think I need, but what do I do with it?

Basicly I think I need an idiots step by step guide,...I just hope someone else is like me and a bit confused...lol...Blush

We all get confused over different things. We will be revisiting this and publish a guide. The problem is that not everyone has the same model so sometime things are different and with complicated items like this experience is required. Some things just are complicated.

Its not so much the radio that you need the licence for, but the wavelengths that you broadcast on,... the strict answer is, yes.

ok, quick word of advice, dont plug your programing lead, straight into your computers usb socket.
Use an extension or hub, or both. i just wobbled the lead slightly and the computer almost self destructed. Small problem with the voltage. Using a hub or extension as a buffer may help.

ok, last few links, i dont want to get into trouble with the mods.

http://scanuk.fr.yuku.com/
http://www.transmission1.co.uk/forum/index.php

Both are dedicated to the scanning community. Use the search function, good for local authority, and shopwatch etc, in your area. search for county, or town.

You bet your granny's knickers you do. I don't know what the penalties are in the UK, but here in the good old USA, unauthorized transmission on an amateur radio frequency will cost you $10,000, plus loss of your radio equipment, plus loss of any license you may hold, plus a ban on holding any future FCC radio license.

And by the way, every ham operator that I've ever known supports these penalties and will turn in a "pirate" unlicensed station and it's operator in a heartbeat!
If at first you don't secede, try, try again!

RE: SUK HT PROGRAMMING PROTOCOL (proposal)
It always makes me laugh that penalties for these 'serious' offences are punished much more than the 'minor' offences such as burglary, rape and murder and it is well known that most hams support the stasi looking after their little cliques. They are not the only group that elevate themselves above everyone else but they seem to be the worst in actively getting involved in tracking people down.

But leaving that beside I have no intention of transmitting whilst the stasi are in charge and just want to have the equipment which is not illegal set up and made ready to go by a more flexible ham. It is no different to TV licensing. It is possible to stay within the law and yet set up our systems ready for an event.

Incidently on my travels I came across what I thought was a GCHQ substation but in fact turned out to the home of a local ham. He is a friend of a friend of mine so I'll find out a little bit more about him. All I know so far is he has been doing this for over 60 years.
