anyone know anything about "sand mats" for getting your vehicle out of soft ground i.e. mud, i saw Ray Mears use something like this in the desert, but i'm thinking about mud and soft snow.

Hi NR there are 2 types "sand ladders" and "waffleboards". Sand ladders assist a vehicle out of deep sand while waffle boards can be place across ditches etc so that you can drive across them.

As you can see 2 completely different thing the sand ladders can only be used supported on the ground. Waffle boards can take the weight of a equipped vehicle.

Something wrong not posted correctly. Sand ladders can only used on the ground to assist a vehicle out of deep sand. Waffle boards are used to help you cross ditches or steep slopes.

There are "SAND LADDERS" and "WAFFLE BOARDS". Sand ladders are usually made out of press metal but plastic ones are now available. Sand ladders assist the vehicles out of deep soft sand. The ladders are supported by the sand.
Waffle boards on the other hand are made out of fibreglass and can support the weight of a fully load vehicle. These are designed to help vehicles cross ditches and to level out steep sides.
