I use Dunlop tyres, have done so for the last couple of years, before that I used Continentals, when I lived in Glastonbury driving older cars I used any budget tyres on offer, mileage was always pretty much the same, new set once a year, get away from the motorways and the main A roads and the road surfaces are pretty crap, potholes and ruts and deformed surfaces, most rural roads haven't been repaired for years and what with storms, winters and farm traffic their in a right old state, I'm quite happy just replacing my tyres once a year.
