When I was an inspector in Public Works, engineers assigned to follow "critical structures" from initial plan submission and review all the way through the various phases of construction and issuance of use permits were required to undergo 180 hours of additional training in fire resistant construction, fire protection and suppression systems, ingress and egress requirements, as well as procedures to be used in conducting risk assessment and hazard analysis.
